Introduction to Medical Astrology

‘Dhamarthakamokshanamarogyamulmutamam’ The state of happiness and well-being of the living being is called ‘Arogya’. Apart from mentioning individual health and illness through Sukhaayu and Dukhaayu, our ancestors have mentioned the social health of man through the concept of Hitayu – Ahitayu. In accordance with the four-sided concept of the organism, the concept of health or wellness is also four-sided.Physical, sensory, mental, and spiritual – only the organism that has attained the state of happiness from these four aspects is healthy – “Samadosha: Samagnischa Samdhatumalakriya: Prasanatmendriamna: Swastha Ityabhidhiyate. In the world of astrology,

there is no dearth of books related to astrology - principles and results written by Indian sages, but in the context of disease, most of the books, being multi-Sanskrit in terms of subject, style and composition, are easily accessible to the students and students of astrology. Are not comprehensible. Since ancient times, astrology is inextricably linked with humans, human civilization and related history. In ancient times, only the science of understanding the sun, planets and time was considered astrology – (Jyotisham Suryadi Grahanam Bodhakan Shastram) but gradually with the development of human civilization – Along with this, the external and internal tendencies of man also started being studied under this scripture. Solutions to every activity of human life like happiness-sorrow, progress- decline, good-bad, profit-loss, victory-defeat etc. started being sought in astrology. Astrology is probably the oldest subject in the background of Indian knowledge. For a human being to remain healthy, it is necessary to follow a healthy lifestyle. Non-adherence to healthy habits leads to disorders and an unhealthy man is unable to attain manly pleasures available in this world and the next world. Therefore, health is considered to be the root of Purushartha-Chatushtaya2 and the medium of fulfillment of three major desires. It is also said in Charak Samhita – “Dharmarthankamokshanam Arogyam Moolamutamam”. Therefore, a person should always try to remain healthy by following the healthy lifestyle wholeheartedly. Symptoms of a healthy person: In Ayurveda Shastra, Acharya Charak has said that “Sharirendriyastvatamsanyogo Dhari Jeevitam” This concept is also in astrology, if the position of ascendant and ascendant is not right then the person will remain sick. Ganesh Kavi says in Jatakalankar that – Dehadhisho Sapapo Vyayamrituripuge Na Ched Tada Deh Saukhyam i.e. if the ascendant is in the sixth, eighth and twelfth houses and if there is no sight of any auspicious planets on the ascendant, then the person definitely remains sick; The meaning is that by protecting the body and following a healthy lifestyle, health is achieved. According to Maharishi Charak, 'Purusha' is a combination of body-sense-satva (mind)-soul. That is, these are the four aspects of a living person. Therefore, when it comes to man's health, it is appropriate to consider those four aspects only. Acharya Sushruta has presented a very scientific description of the symptoms of complete health in the following context, which clearly indicates the above mentioned four aspects of man – ‘Sharirendriyasattva’.

The person whose doshas, metals, feces and fire are equal, that is, free from general disorders and whose senses, mind and soul are happy, is healthy. In this definition, the mention of dosha – fire – metal – stool mentioned in the first stanza is related to physical health whereas the feelings related to mind – soul – senses mentioned in the second stanza are related to mental, spiritual and sensory health.

In this way, by combining both the positions, Sushruta has made great efforts to present the symptoms of total health, because complete health is the basic goal. In ancient India, the wise masters of astrology have considered human health and the disorders arising in it very seriously through the well-known rules of astrology.

Acharya Varahamihir, in his Vrihajjataka book, has taken the names of eminent scholars like May, Yavana, Jeevasharma, and Satyacharya etc. before him and said that these scholars have propounded many useful rules to know the exact age of a human being.
